The DeWalt company originated in Pennsylvania in 1922 when Raymond DeWalt began making woodworking machines. Over the years the company expanded and diversified into other forms of machinery, including air compressors. DeWalt manufactures four different types of air compressors: wheeled portable gas, wheeled portable electric, hand carry gas and hand carry electric.

The DeWalt wheeled portable gas air compressors are powered by Honda OHV GX engines. Tank sizes are 8, 10.5 and 17 gallons. The 8 and 17 gallon compressors each come available in two different varieties: a 9 hp and a 5.5 hp. The 10.5 gallon model is available only with the 5.5 hp engine. The 5.5 hp engine pumps 8.9 SCFM at 100 psi. The 9 hp version pumps 16.2 SCFM at 100 psi.

DeWalt’s wheeled portable electric compressors are available in 4.5, 8, 15 and 17 gallon tank sizes. Buyers can choose between 1.5, 2 and 3 hp varieties. Dual voltage and dual control models are available that allow operation on 120 or 240 volts. The 1.5 hp model delivers 6.5 SCFM at 100 psi. The 2 hp model delivers 8.4 SCFM at 100 psi.

DeWalt offers only one hand carry gas model. It has a 4 hp Honda OHV GX gas engine that pumps 4.5 SCFM at 100 psi. It features a low oil shut off for engine protection and automatic idle control for reduced fuel consumption.

DeWalt offers several different models of hand carry electric compressors. Tank sizes are 1, 2, 3 and 4 gallon. Motors are available in 0.3, 0.6, 1.1 and 1.2 hp. The 1.2 hp version pumps 4.5 SCFM at 100 psi. The 1.1 hp model delivers 4.0 SCFM at 90 psi. These models include oil lubricated pumps for durability and high flow regulators for increased performance. The 0.3 and 0.6 hp models are specialized designs for trim work.
